MILWAUKEE AREA

Half-Price Books, Records - 8514 W. Brown Deer Rd. Milwaukee, WI (414) 354-1235

This is a nice used shop located in the Northern part of Milwaukee.  They specialize in used books, but also sells used dvd's, cd's, and vhs videocassettes.  Be sure to check underneath the main cd racks for bargain cds (between $1.98 and $3.98) in all genres.  It may not have as great a selection as some of the other shops in the chain, but very competitive pricewise, particularly with rock and jazz titles.

CD MAX - 19555 W. Bluemound Rd. #30, Brookfield, WI (262)780-0700

CD MAX is a former Disc Go Round in the western suburb of Brookfield.  CD MAX has a pretty solid (if limited) used cd inventory and has offered more store space to used dvd's and video games.  Prices are mostly in the $5.99-$7.99 range with the occasionally exceptional deal for a lesser known title, or slightly more for imports and bootlegs.  It is not too far west from the Brookfield Mall (at Moorland and Bluemound rds.)  It is pretty close to a Half-Price location just east of CD MAX, as well as a Music Recyclery location within the mall.  The sales counter and disc storage (behind the counter) are identical to the Disc Go Round format.  Patrons bring an empty case to the counter for the clerk to fill before completing the sale.

MegaMedia XChange (formerly Take 2) - 4820 S. 76th St. Milwaukee, WI (414) 282-9994

This is a pretty good source for used media of all kinds, though since switching over to Megamedia from it's original Preplayed/Take 2 roots, the cd selection has decreased.  They offer used cd's, dvd's, videocassettes, video games, video game systems, stereo equipment, computers, car audio supplies, and some musical instruments.  Prices are fair with most cd's going between $3.99 and $7.99.  The best part of Megamedia is it's closeness to several used cd shops in the vicinity of Greenfield Mall.  Megamedia has 2 locations in Madison as well as a sister store in Milwaukee (which I have yet to visit).

Disc Go Round - 4975 S. 76th St., Milwaukee, WI (414)281-0700

Also on 76th street (across the street and down a block from Megamedia XChange) near the Greenfield Mall, Disc Go Round is one of the last stores of the original used cd concept.  They feature an in-store special of Buy 4 Get 1 Free, and feature a wall-length display as well as the original two-sided, "spine's up" units with an upper display shelf.  Prices are mostly $5.99-$8.99 range, with a few exceptions for imports, bootlegs, as well as cut-outs, cd-singles, ep's, and promo discs.  Disc Go Round also features used dvd's and video games as well as some limited audio accessories.
